We’re so incredibly lucky to have you as part of our team, and we genuinely don’t know what we’d do without you. Thank you for everything you do, including all the things that never make it onto the final bill, the schedule, or anyone’s radar. You’re absolute champions, and we’re bloody grateful for you. The other day, an amazing veterinary nurse sent us The other day, an amazing veterinary nurse sent us a message about a post we had recently shared. It wasn’t something we thought was in any way profound or out of the ordinary. The post came after a tough day for our team, as a personal reminder of what we were put on this earth to do. But that post resonated very deeply with someone out there in the world. Someone we don’t know. Someone who had also had a difficult day, just like we did. And honestly, I got a little emotional when I read her message. Because behind all the photos and videos and jokes and banter, we’re really just humans. We’d been thinking a lot about where this page was going and what its purpose is. And this message made us realise something very important: What we do, what we write, and what we say matters. Not only as veterinary professionals, but as human beings. We have no idea what the person next to us is truly going through. We have no idea what season they are in, or what burdens they are carrying. Even the smallest bit of hope and encouragement can change someone’s outlook on everything. It costs absolutely nothing to be kind. It costs nothing to show people some grace. But it can change someone’s life. It can bring back a spark that was almost lost. And that is what we want this page to be. A light for those who feel like this profession may be swallowing them whole. A safe space for a pet owner who feels a little overwhelmed and lost. A little bit of hope and encouragement in an already scary world. So, we hope our posts and our page find you when you need them most. The world isn’t always kind, so we will always be. 🫶🏻

We’ve seen way too many of these lately. And hones We’ve seen way too many of these lately. And honestly? It’s time we talked about it. GDV (gastric dilatation-volvulus), or ✨️bloat with a twist✨️, is an emergency. The stomach fills with gas, food or fluid, and then twists. As it twists, blood flow gets cut off and the rest of the body starts to go into shock. What to look out for: • A suddenly bloated or distended abdomen • Repeatedly trying to vomit, but nothing comes up (retching) • Restlessness or obvious discomfort • Excessive drooling • Panting or difficulty breathing • Weakness, collapse or pale gums Not every dog will show every sign. And GDV can progress frighteningly fast. Who’s most at risk? Middle-aged to older large breed dogs with deep chests (but any dog, really). How to try prevent GDV? Don’t exercise or play with your dog directly before or after mealtime and feed two meals per day instead of one. Your vet can also do a prophylactic gastropexy to help prevent twisting of the stomach. The longer that stomach stays twisted, the worse the damage is, and sadly, many dogs don’t make it. So, if your dog is showing these signs, don’t wait until morning, don’t Google it, and definitely don’t see if they feel better later. Treat it as an emergency and get to a vet immediately. Because with GDV, time matters the most. #dogmom #dogdad #vetmed #vetstudent #gdv
